Criminal cases can be filed by the State’s Attorney or law enforcement depending on the type of charges. Increased caseloads can hinder the ability for the prosecution and the judiciary to proceed with cases in a timely manner, which can cause additional hardship for defendants and victims.

From Q1 2016 to Q4 2021, felony and misdemeanor case filings have dropped 43.23%. Misdemeanor DUI case filings have dropped 6.96% during that same time period.
